Parks and Open Spaces

East London's parks and open spaces provide a great contrast to the bustle of the City.

Several parks offer cycle and nature paths. Mile End Park includes canal-side walkways and cycle routes, an ecology centre and climbing wall.

Victoria Park is one of the area's biggest public parks (two thirds the size of Hyde Park!). Outdoor events are held here in the summer, including concerts, music festivals and outdoor cinema screenings. This park is also the location for one of the live-sites during the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games where visitors to the Park will be able to view sporting events as well as medal ceremonies taking place inside the Stadium.

Several self-guided walks run alongside the canals and waterways which cross East London.  For sailing enthusiasts, clubs in Canary Wharf and Royal Docks offer sailing, canoeing, water-skiing and other water-based sports.
