Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012
Let’s Make It Happen
In the summer of 2012, around 10,000 of the world’s top athletes will descend upon the East End of London to compete against the best of the best, as they vie for Gold in their chosen events at the world’s greatest and most prestigious sporting occasion - the Olympic and Paralympic Games
They will cheered on by around 1.2 million people who will make the journey to London eastside from all over the world to soak up the atmosphere of this spectacular occasion and support their favourite competitors across a variety of events; some of which will take place right here in Tower Hamlets including the men’s and women’s marathons and the Paralympic marathon will pass along Whitechapel Road, Mile End Road and Bow Road – while Victoria Park will be the main venue for the walk race.
Although the events themselves will not take place until the summer of 2012; the party has already started in Tower Hamlets, as the borough embarks on an impressive programme of cultural and sporting celebrations leading up to the crescendo of the Games themselves.
You don’t have to wait for 2012 to soak up the thrill and excitement of an Olympic atmosphere.
