Troxy Bucks Economic Trend

With the events industry hit by spending cuts, redundancies and company bankruptcies, Troxy – one of London’s most versatile venues, appears to be bucking the trend.

Will Poole, Operations Manager for Troxy, said “We’ve had a very strong 2009, with bookings for the year up 10% on 2008 and more importantly the average yield is also up by over 6%. Where we haven’t been hit by the downturn like many other venues is we are not over-reliant on the corporate market. We may have seen a fall in the number of corporate bookings, but this has been outweighed by live concerts, indoor sport, beauty pageants and the like. Boxing has also really taken off this year. In 2008, we did zero boxing events, 2009 will see 8 boxing events and there are 20 pencils in for 2010. Added to which, mainstream live concerts are also up, the venue having attracted the likes of Morrissey, Wilco, The Flaming Lips and Peter Doherty, all of which have sold out.”

Last month saw Troxy’s biggest grossing event. November 2009 will be Troxy’s busiest month on record with some 23 contracted days, which will attract in the region of 34,000 people. Whilst Christmas bookings have dried up in 2009, because Troxy is so flexible, it is able to attract a diverse range of events, so December will see the likes of boxing, cage fighting, live concerts, weddings and religious gatherings.

2010 is also shaping up well, with several major corporate events already booked in, something that was not happening this time last year. Corporate planners are attracted by the cost effectiveness of using Troxy because so much is included in the hire fee and the flexibility offered in terms of catering and production.
