Boisdale to jazz up Canary Wharf in January 2011

2010-06-10

Boisdale - London’s premiere Scottish restaurant - will join an impressive collection of new restaurants and bars when it launches its largest and most exciting project to date in January 2011 - Boisdale Canary Wharf.

Overlooking Cabot Square, the 12,000 sq ft venue will be developed at a cost of £2.7 million by esteemed project management team, John O’Neil & Partners and designed by Rupert Charles-Owen.

Ranald Macdonald, proprietor and founder of Boisdale, said “Canary Wharf represents one of the fastest growing and sophisticated markets in the world but, we found, workers still wanted a restaurant with a little more tradition. It will have a-state-of-the-art ventilated cigar club and big smoking terraces, London’s largest collection of whisky, a selection of private dining rooms and nightly performances from some of the world’s leading jazz, blues & soul musicians. It’s an extremely exciting time for the Boisdale restaurant group.”

Boisdale’s other restaurants – which last year had a turnover of just over £6million and a 20% year on year increase in profits – include Boisdale Bishopsgate, Boisdale Belgravia and The Lamb at Hindon, but the Canary Wharf project - with a capacity of 430 set over two floors and a terrace - will be the most impressive venue yet.

Although the restaurant - which will be creating over 125 new jobs - will be considerably larger than the others in the Boisdale group, its design, and menu, will remain distinctly Boisdale. “Yes, our iconic red branding will remain and we will, of course, continue to serve the best smoked salmon, highland beef and  rare whiskies, but we will also have burgers from £8 and good house wine for £16.00 a bottle. We have something for everyone” Macdonald continued.

Speaking ahead of the launch, Camille Waxer, Vice President of Retail at Canary Wharf Group plc (CWG), said: “Boisdale’s launch demonstrates just how far Canary Wharf has come in attracting London’s premiere restaurants. We’re obviously delighted and are expecting one of the most eagerly anticipated openings yet, which will further accelerate the trend of people heading to Canary Wharf for fun outside of office hours.”
