Limehouse Town Hall is an unknown gem - A Grade II listed, 4 story Victorian building on the Commercial Road with a large hall space steeped in national and local history.
Built in 1881 as one of the vestry halls of Stepney Borough, it consists of a hallway with a grand processional staircase leading up to the first floor hall, surrounded and supported by about 20 office and work spaces on the other three floors.
The hall itself is an imposing space, with overhanging public galleries. It could be used for meetings, screenings, plays, receptions or events.
In its time the Town Hall has hosted speeches by at least 2 Prime Ministers, a museum collection, weddings, political meetings, dances, concerts and avant-garde artists.
It’s located directly on the London Marathon route (at the 20 mile mark) and is managed by a local charity - The Limehouse Town Hall Consortium Trust.
